The Chinese government has donated more than 80 motor vehicles to the Zambian Government to support the operations of the Zambia Police Service, in a move aimed at improving mobility and strengthening law enforcement across the country.
The handover ceremony was held in Lusaka, where Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security Jack Mwiimbu received the vehicles on behalf of the government from Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Han Jing.
Speaking during the event, Mr. Mwiimbu said the donation comes at a critical time when the ministry is facing transportation challenges that have affected service delivery and operational efficiency.
He noted that the additional vehicles would help improve police response, enhance patrol operations, and strengthen public safety in different parts of the country.
Mr. Mwiimbu further described the donation as a reflection of the long-standing diplomatic and developmental relationship between Zambia and China, saying the partnership has continued to benefit both nations through various forms of cooperation.
Chinese Ambassador Han Jing said the vehicles are expected to support the Zambia Police Service in crime prevention efforts, law enforcement operations, and the maintenance of public order.
He added that the gesture also symbolizes the continued friendship and cooperation between the people and governments of Zambia and China.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police Graphel Musamba said the vehicles will be distributed strategically across all 10 provinces, particularly in areas experiencing transport-related operational challenges.
The donation is expected to enhance police mobility and improve the ability of officers to respond swiftly to incidents across the country.
