A 22-year-old Metisha Mubanga from Lusaka has been arrested for allegedly producing and distributing obscene materials online, according to the Zambia Cyber Security Agency.
The suspect, identified as Rabecca Mubanga also known as Metisha Mubanga, is reported to have shared explicit videos and images of herself through social media platforms, prompting an investigation by authorities.
According to officials, Mubanga, who resides in the Kamwala South area of Lusaka, was taken into custody and is currently being held at Woodlands Police Station pending prosecution.
The Zambia Cyber Security Agency stated that the alleged recordings were made between May 24 and May 26, 2026, before being circulated online.
The content reportedly went viral on various social media platforms, attracting widespread public attention and triggering concerns over the distribution of explicit material on the internet.
In a statement, the Agency noted that the production and dissemination of obscene materials constitute an offence under Zambia’s laws and may also amount to a cybercrime under the Cyber Act No. 4 of 2025.
Authorities explained that individuals found guilty under the Act could face penalties including a prison sentence of up to two years, a fine of up to K80,000, or both.
The Agency further confirmed that investigations into the matter are ongoing as law enforcement officers gather additional evidence related to the case.
Zambia has continued to strengthen its cybercrime enforcement efforts in recent years, with authorities warning citizens against the creation, possession, and distribution of illegal online content.
No court date has yet been announced for Mubanga’s appearance before the courts.
