WhatsApp’s paid subscription starts rolling out to some

WhatsApp is taking a step it has never taken before in its nearly 20-year history—introducing a paid subscription tier.

Earlier in the year, reports and leaks hinted that WhatsApp was testing a premium plan. At the time, the idea seemed speculative. However, recent developments confirm that the rollout has already begun, with a new offering called “WhatsApp Plus” reaching select users.

The feature was first spotted by WABetaInfo and later discussed by users on Reddit, signaling that the rollout—while limited—is actively underway.

Importantly, the core version of WhatsApp will remain free. The subscription is entirely optional and designed for users who want enhanced customization and additional features.

Explore WhatsApp’s new “WhatsApp Plus” subscription, offering premium stickers, custom themes, extra chat features, and personalized messaging tools at an affordable monthly price.

According to early previews, the premium plan includes access to exclusive stickers, customizable themes, and new app icons. Users can also pin more chats than the standard limit, unlock premium ringtones, and gain improved control over how their chat lists are organized.

Pricing appears to vary by region. In Europe, early screenshots suggest a monthly cost of around €2.49, while reports from Pakistan indicate a price of PKR 229 per month. This regional pricing model suggests WhatsApp aims to keep the subscription affordable across different markets.

For now, “WhatsApp Plus” is only available to a limited number of users and has not been widely launched. Still, its early rollout signals a significant shift in WhatsApp’s long-standing free-to-use model—opening the door to a more personalized, premium messaging experience.

More details are expected as the feature expands to additional users globally.
