U.S. Singer Oliver Tree Among Six Killed in Brazil Helicopter Crash
American singer-songwriter Oliver Tree has died at the age of 32 following a tragic helicopter collision in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, that left a total of six people dead, authorities confirmed on Sunday.
The incident occurred in the western area of the city, where two helicopters collided mid-air before crashing into the ground in the Recreio dos Bandeirantes neighbourhood, a coastal suburb west of central Rio.
According to local emergency officials, one of the aircraft struck a car dealership after impact, sparking a large fire that engulfed multiple vehicles. Fire crews later brought the blaze under control, but confirmed there were no survivors.
Tree was reportedly travelling with four other passengers in one of the helicopters. The pilot of the second aircraft was also among those killed. Police said all six occupants across both aircraft died at the scene.
Authorities have listed Tree on the official passenger manifest provided to aviation regulators, while forensic identification processes are ongoing in coordination with Brazilian investigators.
The cause of the collision has not yet been determined. Investigators are examining flight paths, weather conditions, and possible human error as part of the early stages of the inquiry.
The crash site, located near a busy urban stretch of Rio’s western corridor, drew significant emergency response as flames spread through parked vehicles, including electric cars at the dealership.
Oliver Tree, known globally for blending electronic pop with alternative performance art, had built a large international following with hit tracks including Life Goes On and Miss You. He was in Brazil as part of a global tour schedule that had recently included performances in South America.
Tributes have begun pouring in from fans worldwide as news of the crash spreads, while officials continue to investigate one of the country’s most severe recent aviation incidents.
